behov secret garden
Behov Secret Garden is easy to find on the way from Champagne Beach to Port Olry.
It is open every day, and you will be met by family members as you arrive at the gate. There they will give you a brief introduction, before you tour their gardens. The gardens are abundant with a range of beautiful local flowers, trees, fruits and vegetables, all set in a tranquil environment.
Within the property you will be shown a family grave-sit, and local customs will be explained. You’ll be shown kava plants growing, and learn more about the life cycle, from planting to harvesting, before processing the kava into the final product. Pigs are kept in the garden and you’ll have a chance to feed them, before heading to the beach where you can feed the fish, and coconut crabs, and take a dip in the water.
From the beach you’ll be able to explore a spring water cave. You can take a refreshing drink from this pure Vanuatu water! As you walk back you will be shown different trees and plants used in local medicine, both fascinating and informative. At the end of your tour you’ll be invited to join your hosts for light refreshments of fresh, home grown fruit and/or coconut.
The tour is at a relaxed pace, with minimal easy walking. Don’t forget your camera.
